Season: March to May and September to December

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro

  • Reception at the airport by our guide and driver;
  • Drive to Thimphu with optional birding at Jigme Dorji National Park;
  • Evening stroll in Thimphu; and
  • Night halt in hotel.

Day 2: Thimphu to Phobjikha

  • Visit Lamperi Botanical Park en route to Wangdue;
  • Drive to Phobjikha, winter habitat of the endangered Black-necked crane (best sightings: Nov–Feb);
  • Visit Black-necked Crane Visitor Information Center;
  • Valley sightseeing and photography; and
  • Night halt in home-stay or hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Trongsa and Bumthang

  • Optional 1.5-hour walk on the old trail between viewpoint and Trongsa Dzong for wildlife sightings, including golden langur, Himalayan black bear, sambar deer, and birds;
  • Continue to Bumthang; and
  • Night halt in home-stay at Tangsibi.

Day 4: Tangsibi to Phrumsengla National Park

  • Visit the park information center at Ura;
  • Drive into Phrumsengla National Park;
  • Spot pheasants, goral, sambar deer, and musk deer along the highway;
  • Birding from Sengor to Yongkola, a premier birding corridor in Southeast Asia; and
  • Night halt in home-stay, hotel, or camp.

Day 5: Birding in Phrumsengla National Park

  • Full-day birding along the park highway; and
  • Night halt in hotel, home-stay, or camp.

Day 6: Continue Birding and Return to Bumthang

  • Morning birding inside the park;
  • Drive back to Bumthang in the afternoon; and
  • Night halt in hotel or home-stay.

Day 7: Bumthang to Paro

  • Morning flight to Paro and trek to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest);
  • Evening stroll in Paro town; and
  • Night halt in hotel.

Day 8: Depart from Paro

Cost Includes
