Punakha is a historically significant district located in western Bhutan. It is known for its pleasant climate, fertile valleys, and cultural importance. Punakha served as the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and continues to be an important religious and administrative center.

Punakha Dzong

Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dechen Phodrang Dzong, is one of the most impressive fortresses in Bhutan. Situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, the dzong is admired for its architecture, woodwork, and murals, and serves as the winter residence of the chief abbot.

Climate
